Marriott’s positive actions prompt revised recommendation

Based on positive, constructive actions taken by Marriott regarding the issue of sexual exploitation of minors, Ethix revises its recommendation from Exit / Engage to Monitor as of Nov 3, 2006.

Marriott has provided information on its major revision of current policies and practices, which has resulted in enhanced, specific policies in relation to sexual exploitation of children as well as practical tools for implementation and streamlining of information and observations within the organization. Marriott’s new policy and management commitment significantly increase the prospects for preventing sexual exploitation of children within the company’s premises.

Overall, Marriott has shown commitment, made significant progress on group level and through implementation and training plans shown a positive outlook for handling different regional contexts such as the one in Costa Rica. Ethix therefore the Exit/Engage recommendation, while continuing our dialogue with Marriott and following their proactive work regarding the issue of sexual exploitation of minors.
