As a professional service partner, Ethix signs the Principles for Responsible Investment at the launch in Paris on May 2.
Being a signatory is an acknowledgement of the relevance of ESG issues to investment management. It also represents a commitment to providing services that support the implementation of the Principles by clients, and to improving such services over time.
In early 2005, the UN Secretary-General invited a group of the world’s largest institutional investors to join a process to develop the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). Ethix participated as an expert advisor in the development process.
The Principles have now been finalised and will be launched by the Secretary-General Kofi Annan, at the New York Stock Exchange on April 27, 2006.
In the following week, the European launch and the first PRI in Practice Roundtable on the Principles will be held on May 2 in Paris.
About the Principles for Responsible Investment The Principles for responsible Investment has the direct support of the UN Secretary-General, and is led by a partnership between UN Environment Programme and the UN Global Compact.
The Principles for responsible Investment is an effort to identify and act on the common ground between the goals of institutional investors and the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations, and as a first step, to develop principles and plans for positive action that reflect those links.
The principles will ultimately form the basis for a new type of responsible capital that will align the goals of sustainable development with the long term obligations of institutional investors especially pension funds, endowment funds, and insurance assets.
For institutional investors, this initiative represents an opportunity to benefit from a global platform for learning and action on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues with the goal of protecting the interests of their beneficiaries over the long term.
