REPORT: Investor guidance on nanotechnology
Nanotechnology, regarded by some to be the 21st Century’s equivalent of the industrial revolution, offers exciting new investment opportunities. At the same time, risks associated with nanotechnology and nanomaterials, particularly risks to human health and the environment, are unknown.
Nano-based products have been on the market for some time without particular labeling. Due to a general lack of regulation in this developing field, an investor may own part of a company manufacturing such products without knowing that the company uses nanotechnologies or nanomaterials in the company’s products or manufacturing processes.
At the same time, based on existing science and regulation, it is reasonably foreseeable that certain risks will arise in the short and long term in connection with regulation, litigation and public perceptions surrounding nanotechnology and nanomaterials.
The report examines developments that have structured the international framework on nanotechnology, particularly as these developments relate to the European Union, and the implications these developments will have for investors.
