ETHIX PRESS: UN and OECD guidelines reinforce expectations on companies to respect human rights

Submitted by Gisela Riddarström on 28 June 2011

On 16 June, the UN Human Rights Council endorsed the ‘Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights’, thereby giving them authoritative status as the global standard for addressing the risk of adverse impacts on human rights linked to business operations. Earlier this spring, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development adopted a significantly revised and amended version of its ‘Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises’. The attached Ethix Press provides further information on these important milestones in the development of global norms for corporate responsibility.
